The issue

Residents in Wattle Grove, Holsworthy, Hammondville and Voyager Point are being left behind in the rollout of public Electric Vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure.

At present, there is a clear gap in paid public EV charging access across this part of the Liverpool Local Government Area. Liverpool City Council’s own Electric Vehicle Charging Stations on Public Land Strategy from July 2024 identified “a noticeable gap in charging infrastructure south of Cabramatta, along the east-west corridor between Green Valley and Holsworthy.”

This directly affects local residents.

Not everyone can install an EV charger at home. Many residents live in units, townhouses, rental properties or homes where installing a private charger is difficult, expensive or not allowed. Without reliable public charging nearby, these households cannot access the benefits of owning electric vehicles.

With petrol and diesel prices placing real pressure on family budgets, residents should have practical access to cheaper transport options. Public EV charging is no longer a luxury — it is the basic community infrastructure for future.

The NSW Government’s 2026 Electric Vehicle Strategy includes significant funding to improve public EV charging, including in suburban blackspots and for residents who cannot charge at home. Liverpool City Council should act urgently to seek relevant funding and identify suitable local sites for installation.

Possible locations include:

>Wattle Grove Community Centre
>Australis Park
>Voyager Point Community Centre
>Hammondville Shopping Centre
>Other suitable Council-owned or publicly accessible car parks in the local area.

To avoid placing an unfair burden on ratepayers, these chargers should be paid public chargers, operated on a user-pays basis. Council does not need to subsidise charging costs for EV owners. The priority should be to facilitate the infrastructure, seek grant funding, and partner with suitable providers.

We are calling on Liverpool City Council to:

>Recognise Wattle Grove, Holsworthy, Hammondville and Voyager Point as a priority EV charging gap area
>Investigate suitable locations for paid public EV chargers in these suburbs
>Apply for relevant NSW Government funding to reduce the cost to ratepayers
>Provide residents with a clear timeline for action

If you live in Wattle Grove, Holsworthy, Hammondville or Voyager Point and believe our area should not be left behind with public EV charging, please sign this petition so we can show Liverpool City Council that residents want action now.
