Weekly Garbage Collection in Student Neighborhoods

Weekly Garbage Collection in Student Neighborhoods
The Issue
Taxes go up and services go down, the rats inherit the town. This is the fate of Waterloo City if we don’t send the message that targeted policies are needed to get more from our tax dollars when it comes to garbage collection.
Garbage collection is a foundational service that keeps vermin, rodents, large animals, and disease at bay. When it doesn't work, we all suffer, and the current 2 week garbage collection service isn’t working for a big portion of Waterloo City’s population - the students.
One missed garbage day means there’s 4 weeks worth of garbage piled up by the time the pickup truck arrives again. It’s all too easy to forget to put the garbage out for students balancing heavy course loads and a slew of new responsibilities, or maybe each household member thought the other would do it, we’ve all been there. Unfortunately the entire city suffers when a large neighbourhood frequently makes this honest mistake.
Let’s be proactive and prevent Waterloo City from becoming infested with rats and cockroaches by making a small tweak to the Region's garbage collection strategy.
Sign this petition to tell the Region of Waterloo to smarten up when it comes to garbage collection and do what’s needed, where needed. The future is in your hands.
Students, sign it so you don’t get stuck with 4 weeks of garbage each time your roommate forgets to take it to the curb.
Neighbours, sign it to help prevent Waterloo from being infested with vermin and reduce your chances of being surrounded by rats.
We’re an innovative region that can do better than be overrun by vermin, and the Region isn’t planning on doing anything unless you tell them to.
“we are not planning any changes”. - Susan White, Manager of Waste Collection and Diversion for Waterloo Region.
