The city of Montreal has adopted a bylaw phasing out the horse carriages by Dec 31st, 2019! After years of inaction by their previous mayor, their new mayor Valérie Plante made it part of her election campaign to ban the horse carriages from the city and now she has made good on that promise. With the BC SPCA making recommendations last week to the city of Victoria to ban the horse carriages from city streets, and now with this precedent being set in Montreal. The city of Victoria has no justification for allowing this industry to continue. We applaud the progressive and compassionate policy of Mayor Plante, the Montreal SPCA, and the many grassroots animal advocates who worked against this inhumane industry for years.
