Dear Supporters, Based on the video footage that we recently obtained and released to the public in early May of two horses collapsed and struggling to get up at Ogden Point, the BC SPCA has made recommendations that the horse carriages be prohibited from Victoria city streets. Furthermore, the BC SPCA called out the carriage company, Victoria Carriage Tours, for lying to the public about the seriousness of the incident. Saying, “It is decidedly troubling that Victoria Carriage Tours chose to inappropriately downplay a serious incident which put the public at risk.” This is a tremendous moment for our efforts to ban the horse carriages in Victoria, as the city now has clear direction from the BC SPCA as well. If the welfare of the animals is important to the mayor and council of Victoria, they must take action and ban the horse carriages. We will continue working hard to make sure the city of Victoria holds the carriages industry accountable for its recklessness and your support now means more than ever. Please continue to sign and share the petition and contact Victoria city council to respectfully tell them the time to ban the horse carriages in now.
