We live in an unaffordable city with a rental vacancy rate of less than 2%. Some residents are unable to live in a permanent residence and so live and sleep out of campers and vans. Dallas road and the Beacon Hill Park area has long been a place where those people can park their homes.

As a resident of James Bay for over 5 years, and someone born and raised in Victoria, I've never had an issue with the overnight parkers. There are plenty of things in James Bay that are a nuisance, such as the litter and noise pollution caused by the cruise ship industry, but overnight parkers have never caused a problem that I've seen.

I would like it if everyone could have an affordable, permanent residence in the City of Victoria, but I recognize that the problems of rental affordability and availability make this impossible. The answer to this problem is not to shove it off to another municipality by "moving them out". Paying city workers to constantly enforce overnight parking bylaws will not reduce but increase the expense for Victoria residents, and it will do nothing to solve the real housing problem in this city.

If you are a resident of Victoria and would rather work to find real solutions to the housing crisis than spend time and money to fight the symptoms rather than the root cause of the problem, then please show city council that by signing this petition.
