Farmers and Ranchers need to be prohibited from Owning more Animals
The Issue
If you Care at all about The Environment you will leave to your Children this is a NO-BRAINER!
Farmers and Ranchers need to be prohibited from Owning anymore Animals than their Own Land can support before our environment is totally destroyed. Grazing of our Federally owned Lands Needs to be prohibited!! Simply due to the fact that when Livestock are grazing on federal allotments and they create a problem with wildlife,by eating their grass, causing Predator problems which then leads to The Predator being destroyed at the request of Livestock Owners!
Animal agriculture contributes to species extinction in many ways. In addition to their monumental habitat destruction caused by clearing forests, and converting land to grow feed crops and for animal grazing, Our predators and "competition" species are frequently targeted and hunted because of a perceived threat to livestock profits.
The widespread use of pesticides, herbicides and chemical fertilizers used in the production of feed crops often interferes with the reproductive systems of animals and then poisons our waterways.
Predator and pest control has extirpated many species, from wolves to prairie dogs. Dewatering of rivers for irrigation has contributed to the decline of many aquatic species, including many native trout. Livestock trampling of riparian areas, wet meadows, seeps, and springs, which has harmed habitat for a great variety of creatures, from songbirds to frogs, Elk, to Deer.
Livestock consumption of grass and other vegetation decreases hiding cover for many animals, making them more vulnerable to predators. Disease transmission from livestock to wildlife, as has frequently occurred with domestic and bighorn sheep, can diminish or eliminate certain wild animal populations. Most forage on public rangelands is allotted to livestock, leaving little food for "WILD" native species to consume. (Elk, Deer, Moose, etc.)
- Animal agriculture is responsible for 18 percent of greenhouse gas emissions, more than the combined exhaust from all transportation.
- Livestock and their byproducts account for at least 32,000 million tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) per year, or 51% of all worldwide greenhouse gas emissions.
- Methane has a global warming potential 86 times that of CO2 on a 20 year time frame.
- Livestock is responsible for 65% of all human-related emissions of nitrous oxide – a greenhouse gas with 296 times the global warming potential of carbon dioxide, and which stays in the atmosphere for 150 years.
- Emissions for agriculture projected to increase 80% by 2050
- Cows produce 150 billion gallons of methane per day.
