American English Phonology

American English Phonology

Le problème

Haiti, the first black independent country is also known unfortunately for its vulnerability rate which is really high. As for now, there's an era of change hunting the country and as a teacher, who is inspired by Roi Henry Christophe, the chief of Cap-Haitian during the colonial period who himself believed that Haitians need to speak English instead of French and then he took the decision to hire some teachers from England to teach the Haitian population. On that same path, I also believe Haiti needs an educational reform and that the population needs to speak English but the ''American English''.

There are hundreds of English Institutes here in Haiti, but most of them can not teach properly or precisely their students how to speak American English, there are always confusions between the british English and the American one in terms of accent and pronunciation along with strong listening problem.

Our Solution is to provide some tools like English Kits, Pieces of training on the American Accent and English Teaching method, create an American English forum and an English media teach center.

When I was 14 years old, a friend taught me The American English Phonology and I soon understood and could identify the weakness of all the Haitian English teachers and so the professionals who did not study in the United States and I said to myself I will never ever pronounce an English word without following its pronunciation rules.  Six months later I started to impress already my surroundings and no one around age in the whole town was able to speak English as fluent as me. Seeing my future brilliant career as a professional English teacher and translator had to conclude that the best thing I could do my country is helping the most Haitians speak English, as well as me and then their lives, will be changed just like mine.

Now I teach and translate for all kinds of people including high qualified professionals who come to work in Haiti for the UN. My uncle who unfortunately died in the earthquake was my student, that is to say how the family was so proud of me. People in Carrefour Feuilles where I was born and grew don't call by my name which is Abraham but ''Teacher'', I moved to Petion-ville, after a few months every one starts calling Teacher cause I raise each and everyone's interest in learning how to speak English and of course they get me busy teaching them. When I moved to Marlique two years later, it is the same thing, they only call me teacher and then I am teaching most of the business owners or people who can pay well but this wasn't my only goal. How about the Vulnerable ones, the school goers, this coming generation.
