Cubans are not able to travel to Guyana to obtain their visas.
The Issue
After Proclamation on revoking proclamation 10014, last February 24, visa interviews at the U.S. Embassy in Guyana were resumed after a year of suspension. Since the closure of the Havana embassy in September 2017, Cubans have had to travel to third countries to obtain their immigrant visas, with a high monetary cost that deeply impacts the family economy of Cubans who from the United States make a great effort to reunite with their close relatives. However, Cubans have accepted this challenge and put their finances to work to achieve their goal. But, the new panorama is even more complex. Due to the restrictions brought about by COVID-19, flights from Havana to Georgetown, Guyana, have been considerably reduced, preventing most people with interviews in the coming weeks from having a way to get to Georgetown, Guyana.
Given this situation, the government of Havana will not offer viable solutions for an immediate reopening of the airport in the Cuban capital to facilitate transportation to and from Guyana. It is well known that the Cuban government does not support the human rights of its citizens, especially when it comes to emigration.
For this reason, we kindly ask that this petition be taken into consideration and that a viable and lasting solution be found for the situation that Cubans with pending migration processes are facing today. The immigration processes of Cubans are within the framework of the law and comply with all the requirements demanded by the State Department, USCIS and the NVC. It is well known that the Cuba case has suffered an extensive delay, the consequences of which are being paid by the people with pending cases who yearn to be reunited with their close relatives in the Land of the Free.
