The U.S. State Department, formally known as the United States Department of State, is a federal executive department responsible for implementing the country's foreign policy and conducting diplomacy. It provides services for U.S. citizens travelling, working, or living abroad and assists foreign citizens who intend to visit or legally immigrate to the U.S. The department is led by the Secretary of State, a member of the President's Cabinet, advising on foreign affairs issues and serving as the chief representative of the U.S. to foreign countries. The State Department works to foster conditions for stability and progress globally by managing diplomatic relations, promoting peace, providing economic aid, addressing global challenges, defending human rights, and working to uphold international law.
