Mandate labeling of Corn and Corn-derived ingredients in foods and medicines

In the 10 years since the Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection Act of 2004 was passed, food allergies have continued to become more prevalent. It is estimated that at least 4% of Americanc have at least one food allergy. The FALCPA needs to be updated to ensure that children and adults with food allergies continue to be protected.
Of all allergens, corn is particularly difficult for consumers to avoid due to the prevelance of corn-derived ingredients and corn byproducts. These ingredients are not identified on food labels as corn, and, due to proprietary information, food producers are not required to share this information with consumers, even when asked directly.
Please update the Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection Act to identify corn and all corn-derived ingredients and byproducts on nutrition labels, for the safety and health of all consumers.
