Urgent Community Concern: 2, 30ft 5G Towers - 8311 Cliffridge Ave

The Issue

The Image Above is a Photo Simulation created by DISH Wireless.  It shows ONE of the TWO Proposed 30ft, 5G Cell Towers, as well as the Proposed Equipment Enclosure located on the La Jolla Youth Baseball Field.  The OTHER Proposed Cell Tower would be located on the Right Field.  BOTH Towers would be disguised to look like the baseball foul poles.

Dish Network’s Proposal
DISH Network plans to install Two, 30-foot 5G Cell Towers with 3 antennas (each antenna 12 feet long by 38.5” wide) on the Pony Baseball Field at 8311 Cliffridge Ave—just steps from Torrey Pines Elementary School & YMCA / Preschool Program.

Tower Proximity to Torrey Pines Elementary & YMCA
5G Tower #1 – Located on the North West Corner - Disguised as the right foul line pole, this tower will be approximately: 64 feet from the Torrey Pines Elementary School property line.
5G Tower #2 – Located on the South West Corner - Disguised as the left foul line pole, this tower will be approximately 267 feet from the YMCA.  As you may know, the YMCA has a preschool on the premises, and where the community comes for recreation.

Equipment Enclosure - Adjacent to Cell Tower #2,  Dish plans include building an Equipment Enclosure measuring approximately 12 X 9.4 feet.  It would include the underground cable conduit running to a Equipment Cabinet.  The Equipment Enclosure also have a proposed Wall Mounted Indoor Condenser Unit, An Outdoor Condenser Unit, as well as a GPS Unit Mounted to the wall.  The Equipment Enclosure would be approximately 244 feet from the YMCA Property Line.

Underground Conduit Route System - The proposed plan would also have an underground conduit route system with hybrid cables that would run to both Dish Towers and to the Equipment Enclosure.

Existing AT&T Tower
There is already an existing AT&T tower and Equipment Enclosure approximately 64 feet from the Torrey Pines Elementary School Property line, which would mean there would be 3 Active Towers on ONE baseball field.

ACCORDING TO THE FCC MAP, WE ALREADY HAVE 100% COVERAGE AT 8311 CLIFFRIDGE AVE, including a single cell directly in front of the TPES Office.

Let’s find a more appropriate placement — away from our children’s baseball field & schools.

It Is Important to NOTE- The Environmental Health Trust (EHT) supports the New Hampshire Commission's recommendation for a 1,640-foot setback distance for cellular antennas from residential areas, schools, and other sensitive locations. This recommendation was part of the Commission's comprehensive report on 5G health and environmental concerns.

City Approval
San Diego Parks & Recreation has already approved and signed off on the project.  There is only ONE more step for DISH to present to the Planning Commission where they will make the final decision. We are still waiting for the hearing date, which could be scheduled soon.

Imminent Approval Risk
The Planning Commission is likely to approve these towers unless we act fast to make it clear: Our community does NOT want these towers near our children!

Lack of Public Input
The community has unanswered questions for DISH Wireless and San Diego City Parks & Recreation that must be addressed before the Planning Commission sets a hearing date.

We need our community’s support to oppose this project!
WE ARE ASKING FOR Families & Community Members to attend the following:

La Jolla YMCA / Meeting Room #2

Monday, March 25th @ 9:30am or Wednesday, March 27th @ 5:30pm

BIG COMMUNITY MEETING Friday, APRIL 11th @ 3:00pm!  Above the Pony Baseball Field!

To Note: The La Jolla Shores Association voted the project down 11-0, showing that this is NOT WANTED by the La Jolla community. The City needs to take these recommendations into consideration. Here is the article with some important details that you could share: https://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/.../la-jolla-shores.../

Our Children Are NOT for Sale
We demand to know how much DISH Network is compensating the City of San Diego for leasing public land to build these towers.

IMPORTANT Health Concerns WE MUST TALK ABOUT:

Dr. Chamberlin, President of the Environmental Health Trust, and renowned expert in RF radiation presented on the impact of wireless radiation at the 5G Town Hall on February 13th.  Dr. Chamberlain stated: The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) has identified oxidative stress as a common characteristic of several human carcinogens; the primary mechanisms by which exposure causes harm are oxidative changes, which can lead to an increase in free radicals. Those free radicals can lead to chronic inflammation and many of harmful outcomes including:
Reproduction (sperm damage and infertility)
Alzheimer’s Disease
Cancer
Cardiovascular disease
Diabetes
Chromosome damage
DNA damage

Numerous cities and communities nationwide have opposed cell towers near schools based on precautionary health principles.  As an example: In Ripon, California parents and community members successfully advocated for the removal of a cell tower located on the grounds of Weston Elementary School. Concerns escalated after several students and teachers were diagnosed with cancer, leading to fears about potential health risks associated with prolonged exposure to EMF Radiation by the tower.

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) has stated that children are more vulnerable to the effects of radiofrequency (RF) radiation.

While the EHT emphasizes that children are particularly susceptible to EMF radiation due to their developing nervous systems and thinner skulls, the organization also acknowledges that elderly individuals may face increased risks. Age-related physiological changes, such as diminished immune function and the presence of chronic health conditions, can make older adults more vulnerable to environmental hazards, including EMF exposure.

Firefighters and their unions have raised concerns about the health risks of cell towers near fire stations, citing long-term RF radiation exposure. The International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) opposes such installations after a 2004 study of California firefighters exposed to nearby towers revealed brain abnormalities, cognitive issues, and sleep disturbances. After spending 15 years and millions of dollars, California established setbacks to protect firefighters from prolonged exposure.

Safety & Fire Risk
The recent Gilman Fire highlighted serious evacuation concerns. With only two evacuation routes, many families were trapped for up to 30 minutes in traffic during the last emergency.

Adding 5G towers increases fire risks and could create additional obstacles during evacuations.

If a fire reached the 5G towers, SDG&E would need to shut off power before first responders could safely intervene, delaying emergency response.

It can take up to 60 minutes to wait for SDG&E to come and confirm that the power supply to the grid is cut before the fire can be fought (using water suppression)

Take Action Now!-We need to educate our community, gather support, and show up in numbers at the San Diego Planning Commission Meeting once scheduled. We need YOUR help!
