I am voicing my concern about the rate hikes from Duke Energy. I am elderly & on a fixed income, and the recent utility hikes are squeezing my budget to a breaking point. Please do not allow AI centers to function off of the citizens backs and pocketbooks.
As a retired couple, we are working to reduce our expenses, not increase them. Essential living costs, such as electricity, should not rise simply because of a business decision to expand or improve capabilities. These types of costs should not be passed on to customers, particularly those living on fixed or limited incomes. We respectfully ask that you consider adjusting the rates so they are fair and not punitive to customers.
Remote learning was the focus for years when needed in a time of crisis. This is a need now for our city. Staten Island roads are not plowed, sanitation trucks and plowing companies are stuck. Teachers, staff and students can’t even get out of their front doors. The snow is taller than most of the children and it has yet to stop. The conditions to drive are extremely unsafe and will ice overnight making it worse. Buses could barely make it down students blocks during the last, less severe snow storm. Students were missing school or late for weeks because of it. Please show your care for our dedicated workers in this time and make us remote tomorrow.
During the last storm, one of my 6th graders fractured her ankle from slipping on ice! A fellow teacher friend told me a high school student of hers got hypothermia because he chose to wait with a woman who slipped and broke her leg on the sidewalk until emergency services arrived. The conditions were unsafe for walking commuters & as I myself struggled to cross Grand Concourse I couldn’t help but think about my students with mobility disabilities and how difficult it would be for them to get to school. Please make the call for remote learning to protect student & staff safety!
