Urgent Call to Prevent the Deportation of Afghanistan migrants from Pakistan and Iran

The European Union,
Other Global Organizations Committed to Human Rights and Refugee Protection
*Dear Respected Leaders and Organizations,*
We, the undersigned, urgently appeal to your conscience and commitment to human rights to take immediate action to halt the deportation of Afghan migrants from Pakistan and Iran. These deportations endanger countless lives, especially women activists, former military personnel, and other vulnerable groups who fled Afghanistan to escape targeted violence under the Taliban regime.
The Crisis in Afghanistan
Since the Taliban’s return to power, Afghanistan has become one of the most dangerous places in the world for women, minorities, and anyone associated with the previous government or foreign missions. Women activists face persecution for demanding basic rights. Former military personnel are systematically hunted and executed by the Taliban. This climate of fear has forced many to flee to neighboring countries like Pakistan and Iran in search of safety and survival.
However, the deportation of Afghan refugees by Pakistan and Iran is a direct violation of international humanitarian principles, including the non-refoulement principle under the 1951 Refugee Convention. Sending these individuals back to Afghanistan exposes them to severe human rights violations, including imprisonment, torture, and death.
Why Immediate Action is Needed
• Women Activists: These brave individuals risked everything to advocate for human rights and gender equality. Under Taliban rule, they face systematic oppression, public flogging, imprisonment, or worse.
• Former Military Personnel: Afghan men and women who served in the military are labeled as traitors by the Taliban. For them, deportation is a virtual death sentence.
• Children and Families: Many refugees include families with young children who already suffer from hunger, lack of education, and psychological trauma. Deporting them would worsen their plight.
Our Appeal
We respectfully request your esteemed organizations to take the following actions:
1. Urge Pakistan and Iran to Halt Deportations: Engage diplomatically with the governments of Pakistan and Iran to immediately stop the deportation of Afghan refugees and advocate for humane treatment.
2. Provide Emergency Support: Offer financial and logistical assistance to Pakistan and Iran to manage refugee populations without resorting to deportation. Ensure international aid addresses basic needs like housing, healthcare, and education.
3. Expand Refugee Resettlement Programs: Work with member states to expedite resettlement programs for Afghan refugees in third countries, ensuring their safety and successful integration.
4. Strengthen Monitoring and Advocacy: Increase efforts to document and expose human rights abuses against Afghan refugees, holding countries accountable for violations of international law.
5. Protect Vulnerable Groups: Advocate for special protections for high-risk groups, including women activists, former military personnel, journalists, and minorities.
Why This Matters
Deportation of Afghan refugees from Pakistan and Iran is not just a regional issue but a global humanitarian crisis. Ignoring this crisis undermines core principles of human rights, dignity, and justice. Refugees are not criminals; they are survivors fleeing unimaginable horrors.
By acting now, your organizations can save lives, reaffirm international commitments to human rights, and set a precedent for compassion and justice in the face of adversity.
We urge you to stand with the Afghan people during their darkest hour and use your platforms, influence, and resources to prevent further suffering. Together, we can ensure that no refugee is forced to return to a place where their life is in danger.
Sincerely,
