The Issue

In Hastings, Rye, and the surrounding villages, many of us know someone who relies on Personal Independence Payment (PIP) and Universal Credit due to a disability or illness. For those individuals, this financial support is a lifeline—helping them cover personal care expenses, transportation costs, and other needs essential for their daily lives. It ensures they can remain in employment and stay connected with their communities.

Despite amendments to the Universal Credit and Personal Independence Payment Bill during its last reading, the proposed legislation still poses significant risks. It threatens to negatively impact some of the most vulnerable in our community, with potential consequences such as driving thousands of children into poverty.

This is not just another vote; it is the final opportunity for our Member of Parliament, Helena Dollimore, to stand up for her constituents by voting against this harmful bill during the third reading on 9th July 2025. The stakes are extremely high: decisions made now will directly affect the lives and wellbeing of the people she was elected to represent.

We urge Helena Dollimore to consider the severe implications this bill will have on real lives in Hastings and Rye. Voting against this bill is not only an act of solidarity with those in need, but a stand for fairness and humanity in our social system.

We call on her to change her vote, and now vote AGAINST this bill.
