My family lost our family home in Kalorama in ferocious wind storms that ripped through the Dandenong Ranges in June 2021. The remnants of our home were demolished along with many of our precious possessions. We have been on the Planning Journey with Yarra Ranges Council who have now, 13 months later, deemed our land uninhabitable - so we cannot rebuild. We are devastated as our family asset which is now gone and our land which is all we have left, is worthless. How are we supposed to move on from this? We have been given no direction from Yarra Ranges Council as to options going forward for our family. What do we do now? We understood the overlays on our property but don't understand why the Yarra Ranges Council has lead us on this time and money wasting journey to now tell us this. They have not sighted our plans yet tell us the only way for us to get a maybe is to go to VCAT - waiting 8 months is not an option for us as we only have 11months left of Insurance paid accommodation while we are displaced. We are also still paying our mortgage.

We are requesting an amendment change to the Planning Scheme in place at Yarra Ranges Council from the State Government Planning minister - and for them to go over the terms noted in both Geotechnical reports provided. The importance level of our building is 'low level residential'. We want them to assess the risk levels to us as the landowners and not just focus on the financial risk to the Yarra Ranges Council. We also want them to consider a 173 Agreement is put in place for our property which removes the Yarra Ranges Council from any responsilibity in case of future Landslip.

We have been through enough trauma in the last 13 months and just want to be back home. This recent decision has left a great amount of unsurety amongst our community as to the value of their land and/or homes.

We never wanted to rebuild - we didn't chose this - our dream home was lost in a natural disaster.
