Trent University has recently been embarking on a significant construction project. The Bata podium, a key location for many university traditions and activities, is currently under renovation. Unfortunately, this construction overlaps with the planned dates for the 2025 Convocation ceremonies. This means our Convocation will most likely be automatically moved into the Athletics Center. This and the construction work around campus  will add unnecessary hassle to the students, their families, and faculties who will be attending Convocation, diminishing the joy of the occasion.

We respect the university's need to upgrade its facilities, and fully support renewal. However, we believe that Convocation, a pivotal celebration for every student's journey, should be held where all Trent students expected to graduate. It should be moved inside due to weather, not because of a construction project. 

We are therefore calling upon the Administration of Trent University to reschedule the Convocation ceremonies of 2025 to a date after the construction on Bata Podium is completed. If this cannot be done then move up the construction job or move the ceremony to the athletics field or a proper venue that is not the gym. This will ensure the integrity and enjoyment of this important event for all students, their families, and staff. Let's protect the charm and significance of our Convocation.
