The issue

I'm an individual living with autism who has a Companion Card. Having this card means, I am entitled to bring along a carer to assist me with diverse activities at no extra cost. Among my favorite pastimes is playing games at Timezone. But this experience has been spoiled by Timezone Australia's refusal to accept Companion Cards, even for their games like Lazer Tag.

You see, on a good day, I was excited to play Lazer Tag with a disability group only to be met with disappointment. Timezone wouldn’t allow our group facilitator to play, despite many of us having a Companion Card. This is not only disappointing but also a hindrance to our full participation and integration into society. On a broader scale, it directly contradicts the inclusive spirit that many businesses have embraced by accepting Companion Cards as a mainstream accommodation to help disabled people participate in society.

Notably, according to the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) data, there are over 4.3 million Australians with disability. Many, like myself, depend on Companion Cards for accessibility and inclusion in society. By refusing to accept these cards, Timezone Australia not only excludes a significant part of the population but also goes against Australia's commitment to disability rights, as per the Disability Discrimination Act 1992.

We, therefore, urge Timezone Australia to review its policy and acknowledge Companion Cards, leveling the playing field for those of us needing a bit of extra help to fully enjoy our leisure activities. It's time for Timezone Australia to play fair and let everyone enjoy.

Come, sign this petition and join us in fostering an inclusive and fun-loving society.
