The Himalayas are not just a majestic natural wonder; they are an integral part of our identity, our environment, and our future, especially for those of us who call Nepal home. Having seen  the profound impact that the mountain ecosystem has on our daily lives, We are  deeply concerned about the escalating threats posed by climate change and unchecked human activities.

Nepal, a country rich in cultural and natural heritage, is uniquely vulnerable to the erratic climate patterns affecting the Himalayas. Communities here face increasing risks of floods, landslides, and other natural disasters, which threaten lives and livelihoods. Beyond our borders, the Himalayan mountains influence water systems that sustain more than a billion people in India, China, and beyond, underscoring the region's critical global significance.

The United Nations has long acknowledged the importance of the Himalayas, yet action has lagged behind words. Despite several resolutions and commitments, there remains a significant gap in cooperation and concrete initiatives to address the escalating environmental challenges. It is time for the United Nations to turn promises into reality by intensifying efforts to foster cooperation among Himalayan nations.

We propose that the UN establish a dedicated task force focused on Himalayan sustainability, bringing together environmental scientists, policymakers, and representatives from Nepal, India, China, Bhutan, and other regional stakeholders. This task force should prioritize research on climate resilience, allocation of funds for disaster risk reduction, and development of policies that support sustainable livelihoods without further endangering our fragile ecosystems.

Furthermore, we urge the UN to facilitate cross-border information sharing and early warning systems, which are crucial for disaster preparedness. By fostering collaboration and mutual understanding among countries, we can develop a coherent strategy aimed at safeguarding the Himalayas for future generations.

Our home, our environment, and our future depend on these proactive measures. The UN's intervention is critical not only for the preservation of the Himalayas but for global water security and ecological balance.
