The Issue

Ever since I learned about 7 Hydroxymitragynine, I have been deeply concerned for the safety of my fellow South Carolinians. This substance, an addictive and dangerous opioid-like drug, is alarmingly easy to purchase from most smoke shops across our state. Too many individuals are unknowingly trying this drug without understanding its perilous nature.

The danger doesn't just lie in its addictive properties but also in its resistance to traditional treatments for opioid use disorder. People who find themselves entangled with 7 Hydroxymitragynine often discover that standard recovery methods are less effective, making it incredibly difficult to recover from its grip.

This is why I am calling on the South Carolina Senate Medical Affairs Committee to advance Bill H. 4641 out of the off-season study phase and onto the Senate floor for a vote. This bill is crucial for initiating necessary regulations and protections against harmful substances, thereby ensuring the safety and well-being of our community.

The safety of South Carolina’s citizens should not be postponed or taken lightly. We have the opportunity to make a meaningful difference for our communities by taking legislative action now. Bill H. 4641 will take a necessary step towards stringent oversight of dangerous substances like 7 Hydroxymitragynine.

The time to act is now. I urge you to sign this petition to show your support for the advancement of Bill H. 4641. Let’s work together to protect our friends, family, and neighbors from the threats posed by this substance. With your help, we can move this crucial legislation forward and safeguard the health of our community. Please sign and share this petition with others to amplify our collective voice for change.
