The Issue

My wife and I, along with our three dogs, have had the privilege of walking around the enchanting paths of Styal for 13 years. This walk has become not just a pastime, but a cherished ritual in our lives. When we announce a 'walk to Styal Woods,' our dogs leap with joy and rush to the door, eager for the adventure that awaits. However, the pending closure on 16th June 2025 of the Giant's Castle Bridge threatens to disrupt this treasured part of our walks.

The bridge is a crucial access point for the breathtaking walks through Styal Woods, providing locals and visitors alike with the opportunity to experience the beauty of our natural surroundings. The bridge's location amid lush greenery offers a serene environment for relaxation and exercise, crucial for mental well-being and fostering community spirit.

The National Trust, known for its commitment to preserving heritage sites and natural landscapes, must act quickly to repair Giant Castle's Bridge. Restoring this pathway is not merely about convenience but about safeguarding the rich experiences and connections with nature it affords. Many like us, rely on this path for their daily walks, enjoying the scenic views and peace it brings.

Statistics show that access to green spaces significantly boosts mental health, encouraging physical activity and reducing stress. Styal Woods is an important part of our community's well-being, continuously providing these benefits. If the bridge remains closed, it effectively cuts off easy access to this vital resource.

The other path's recommended by the National Trust are good, they however do not give people the chance to explore the full area.
Please join us in urging the National Trust to prioritize the repair of Giant Castle's Bridge. Your support is essential to ensure that everyone can continue to enjoy the splendor of Styal Woods now and for future generations. Sign this petition to help us preserve this beloved walking route for all who cherish this natural wonder. Let's keep the heart of our community open and accessible.
