Urge the Council to Secure Huapai Domain from Vandalism
The issue
In the heart of Kumeu is Huapai Domain, home to Kumeu Cricket Club and West Coast Rangers. This shared community space has become a repeated target for vandalism, causing frustration, financial loss, and damage to the spirit of our clubs and members.
This week alone, vandals destroyed half of a pitch cover and the netting for our portable net, causing $6,000 in damages. In recent weeks, a field was torn up. Over the years, our clubrooms have been vandalized and broken into, our pitch roller stolen, and our storage shed burned down. West Coast Rangers have also experienced ongoing damage to their facilities and fields.
This isn’t just about the financial loss. It’s about the violation of a space we both cherish—a place where families gather, young athletes grow, and our community connects. Every act of destruction chips away at the spirit of our clubs and the people who call this place home.
Kumeu Cricket Club and West Coast Rangers are proud community-driven organizations that rely on grants and sponsorships to provide opportunities for players of all ages. Seeing our resources wasted and our hard work undone is both disheartening and unacceptable.
We are calling on the Council to take immediate action—lock the gate at night at the Huapai Domain. This simple but effective measure can help deter further vandalism and protect our shared space.
Stand with us in securing Huapai Domain. Let’s ensure that our sports grounds remain a place of competition, unity, and pride—not a target for destruction. Sign this petition and make your voice heard. Together, we can make a difference.
