I am a resident of Mittagong, NSW, Australia and like many others in our community, I feel the loss of our local pool deeply. The Mittagong pool has been closed since the unfortunate flooding event in 2021. This facility was more than just a place to swim; it was a hub for social interaction, physical activity and played an important role in promoting health and wellbeing within our community.

The closure has not only affected those who used it for leisure but also local schools that utilised this facility for their swimming programs. According to Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), regular physical activity can lead to significant health benefits and contribute positively towards mental well-being.

Our council needs to understand that reinstating a new pool due to the flooding issues is not just about providing a place to swim; it's about reinstating an essential service that contributes significantly towards our quality of life here in the highlands.
