For us, the Island residents and  visitors the Shingle bank and Barton's Point, it's not just an area - it's our home. However, it is also known as an accident black spot. Too many of our neighbors and friends have been hurt or put in danger because of this. The lack of a full-time speed camera isn't just inconvenient, it's life-threatening. 

The speed limit may be clear to locals, but it is often ignored or overshot by unaware drivers. Installing a permanent speed camera can change this scenario. Experience from other areas shows that speed cameras can reduce accidents. According to the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents, cameras resulted in a 70% reduction in speeding and 40% reduction in casualties where they were installed.

We believe in the power of our local voice and trust KCC can take the necessary steps to ensure our safety. Therefore, we urge Kent County Council (KCC) to install a permanent speed camera in front of the Shingle Bank and Barton's Point.
