Urge Ford to compensate UK Fiesta owners for low resale value
The Issue
Dear fellow Ford Fiesta owners,
I bought my 2021 Fiesta ST-Line with high hopes of enjoying a reliable, stylish vehicle that would hold its value over time. However, I've been trying to sell it since June, and to my dismay, I've witnessed its value drop significantly. Back in June, Autotrader valued my car at £10,500. Now, it's at £10,150 and I can't even find a buyer willing to offer £8,750 due to the "wet belt" issue. This isn't just my story—thousands of UK owners are facing the same problem due to plummeting resale values directly linked to "Ecoboost" engines with the problematic "wet belts."
The heart of this issue lies in the "wet belt" in these engines, which are becoming notorious for their reliability issues. Over time, these belts deteriorate and lead to costly repairs. Yet, while Ford has addressed similar issues in the USA with belt replacements, UK consumers, like myself, are left out in the cold. This disparity is unfair and leaves UK owners shouldering the financial burden while our American counterparts receive solutions.
According to industry experts and consumer reports, the resale value of cars equipped with "Ecoboost" engines, particularly in models with "wet belts," is significantly lower than anticipated. A recent analysis has shown that owners of these vehicles could face a decrease in resale value by as much as 25% compared to similar models without the "wet belt." This stark undervaluation impacts thousands of UK Ford Fiesta owners, severely affecting our investment.
We are calling on the Ford Motor Company to acknowledge this issue and to compensate affected owners. Ford should undertake a program similar to that in the USA, where it compensates for the reduced resale value of these vehicles or facilitates the replacement of the "wet belts" to restore confidence and value in their cars.
This situation is not just an inconvenience, it's a financial hardship for many. When we purchased our vehicles, we believed in the Ford brand, renowned for reliability and quality. It's time Ford stands by its UK customers as it does elsewhere.
