Urge Disney to Revoke Casetify's Licensing Deal Due to Design Theft Allegations

The Issue

We are calling on Disney, a company known for its commitment to creativity and originality, to reconsider their licensing deal with Casetify.

Recent allegations have surfaced that Casetify has been stealing designs from DBrand and JerryRigEverything. This is not only unethical but also goes against the principles of fair competition and respect for intellectual property rights.

The Allegations:

Casetify’s Response:

Casetify responded, removing the items in question from their website.  They claim to be investigating the issue.  They also claim to have suffered a DDOS attack that disrupted their website when the allegations surfaced.

While Casetify’s response to remove the disputed items and initiate an investigation is a positive step, it’s important to note that the subsequent DDOS attack was likely due to a surge of traffic from concerned individuals rather than a targeted attack. This public response indicates a high level of concern and interest in the matter. However, it doesn’t absolve the need for a thorough and transparent review of their design sourcing and approval processes. Disney’s partnership with Casetify should be contingent upon a demonstrated commitment to ethical practices and respect for intellectual property, aligning with Disney’s own values.

The Product Collection:

Casetify offers a wide assortment of Disney branded products, including those featuring Disney Villains, Spider-Man, The Mandalorian™, Disney and Pixar's Monsters, Inc., Disney Mickey & Friends, Disney x CASETiFY - Alice in Wonderland, Disney Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas, Disney Princess, Disney and Pixar's Toy Story, Disney x CASETiFY - The Lion King Collection, Star Wars™

Why Disney?

While the spotlight is on Disney due to their extensive and diverse range of intellectual properties featured with Casetify, this issue extends to all rightsholders, including those of Harry Potter, Stranger Things, The Office, and others. Each of these entities should consider the implications of their partnerships in light of these allegations.

However, Disney's global influence and broad spectrum of IPs position them as a key player in setting industry standards.  Just looking at the featured brands section on Casetify’s home page shows a majority list of Disney titles.  Their action (or inaction) in this matter could serve as a benchmark for others. As a beacon of creativity and a protector of intellectual property, Disney has the power and responsibility to lead by example, demonstrating the importance of ethical business practices. By doing so, they can encourage a ripple effect, prompting other rightsholders to undertake similar reviews of their partnerships, thereby fostering a more ethical and respectful environment in the creative industry.

In conclusion, while all rights-holders involved should reevaluate their associations, Disney's response is pivotal in shaping the industry's approach towards protecting intellectual property and maintaining ethical standards.
