Paula Wiltse started this petition to Upper Canada District School Board

We have recently been told by our school board "UPPER CANADA DISTRICT" that our high school runners will not be able to attend EOSSAA/OFSAA Championships this season. We are 1 of only 5 associations not being allow. There are 13 of 18 associations allowing their children to participate.

Our region has a 91% fully vaccinated population which includes our high school kids and especially the ones engaged in sport. Our region has one of the lowest COVID rates in Ontario yet we must punish our children.

The sport of XC is run outside which has been proven to have a next to 0 chance of transmission. There is no logical reason our kids should not be allowed to take part.

As Ontario continues to open we fall behind. Why are our children not being allowed the same opportunities as other regions?? This is a big deal to so many kids! Running and competing as a school team helps our children mentally and physically. There are also Senior students who are depending on this for their future education. Its been 2 years of no school sports.....enough is enough. Some of these kids have been training year round.

The school board blames it on recommendations from our health unit and what they are mandated to do. How can our health unit be that different from all the others in Ontario??

So as a frustrated parent with a high school athlete I am asking for your help. Please sign this petition. Also, feel free to email the Upper Canada School Board in support of our kids. Time is of the essence with this matter! We are 2 weeks away from what should be our EOSSAA.
