The Issue

I'm invested in my education, having put my time, money, and effort into my program. That's why the use of strike tactics that hurt my program/schooling and feels so much like a direct and unfair assault to me and all students. These strikes have already caused me to be late for classes and to miss out on vital educational opportunities I rightfully paid for.

Students across the college are experiencing similar issues. Academic institutions are supposed to be nurturing environments that facilitate learning and growth; however, recent strike protocols are falling short of this promise, thereby threatening to rob thousands of students of their right to education.

Strikes are by no means inherently negative. They serve as powerful tools for workers to demand fair treatment and good working conditions.

However, when these strikes lead to prolonged disruptions that prevent students from accessing the education they have invested in, it becomes necessary to establish protocols that protect their rights while respecting the needs of academic staff.

Therefore, we propose the implementation of specific protocols during strikes that ensure minimal disruption to the educational process. This can involve measures like maintaining a skeletal functioning of administrative offices, having essential academic staff available for consultations, and providing digital course material so that learning continues uninterrupted.

I am more than aware that there is a period of time that police allow you to block traffic. However, it is quite annoying and rude to abuse that privilege and form a human blockade/barricade.

By balancing the rights of both students and staff, I feel we can create an environment that remains fair and equitable for all parties involved. Students should not be collateral damage in disputes between academic staff and administrations. A proactive approach in establishing these safeguards will not only protect current students but also ensure that academic institutions remain reputable and appealing to future scholars.

We need your support to make our voices heard. PLEASE Sign this petition to demand immediate action towards developing strike protocols that uphold academic fairness and ensure unimpeded student access.

Let us work together to preserve the quality and accessibility of education for all students. Your signature is not just a support, but an investment in the future of education for everyone.

We are St. Clair College Saints, a community, a family. We should not be fighting against each other
