Upgrade the netorious roundabout Intersection at Hursley Road Anzac Ave, and Holberton Sts

The issue

The intersection of Hursley Road, Anzac Avenue, and Holberton Streets in Toowoomba has been a notorious crash hotspot for years. Despite upgrades to the roundabout back in 2007 and 2008, crashes have continued to occur frequently. In 2015 alone, a review driver's lens installed to check for blindspot traffic was destroyed by another crash. Similar accidents happened again before 2020. upgrades to the well know crash hotspot could reduce crashes and more rare end crashes with the current roundabout. it has a history of crashes and still has even in 2010s. the roundabout as shown on a old 2000s image showed how it once orignaly was. by late 2000s in 2007 on a street view in the early days of street view when it launched. it showed a upgrade but was to install slip lanes towards anzac ave and hursley road from holberton st and anzac ave and herries st where 2 slip lanes were installed. 6 years in that time. by early 2015. another small upgrade happened. changing the landscape in the roundabout to concret landscape. new signage including a flash sign to alert drivers comin to the roundabout. those were the small upgrades that happened in the last 17 to 9 years. 2007 and 2015.
This intersection needs urgent attention. We propose removing the roundabout and converting it into a 4 way intersection with necessary winding works while closing off nearby slip lanes. Most importantly, traffic lights should be installed to ensure safer navigation for all road users. the speed limit on hursley road between the roundabout and the tor st signalised intersection was recent dropped from 60km to 50km. the roundabout has been the scene of many crashes even in recent years. we believe having a safer intersection would reduce crashes and improve the state and status of the intersection regardless of improvments or changes, edit. theres a new planned bikeway for future planning by toowoomba region council. trc for a new shared path for bikies and pedestrains between anzac ave between a future tmr goode st connection at glenvale that avoids the busy james and anzac ave intersection from impacts on trucks along councils planned bikeway on anzac ave from goode st to a new futre upgraded gatfield st and connection to clifford gardens for brand new signalised turns though the anzac ave. hursley road and holberton st rounabout and to herries st before changing to a future sperete bikeway on anzac ave between herries st and at the intersections of margrate st. hill st and helens st to a new safe active st in a less traffic area though to clifford st and to dent st at the connection along the west creek and near grand central. all designs are to be further investaged by toowoomba council and tmr qld in the future. the project could include relocating power poles. install raised crossings. new kerb build outs. upgraded and new traffic islands and new traffic lights at 3 intersections including possibly 2 existing future upgraded traffic signals like anzac ave and hill st and clifford and hill sts. this signals future signs for new traffic lights at intersections and upgraded traffic signals as the future grows from less cars to more bike riders. pedestrains and healthy ways of new life well before 2040.

Please sign this petition to urge local authorities and tmr qld. department of transport to upgrade this dangerous intersection and prevent further accidents and incidents and much needed upgrades!
