Upgrade the Keir Roundabout and A9 Junctions, Including Blackford

Upgrade the Keir Roundabout and A9 Junctions, Including Blackford
The Issue
We, the undersigned, call on Transport Scotland and the Cabinet Secretary for Transport, Infrastructure and Connectivity, and urge local MPs and councils to support this petition, to commit to implementing grade separation of the Keir Roundabout and upgrading key A9 junctions, including the Blackford junction, as soon as possible for reasons of road safety and traffic efficiency. Why this petition matters:Keir Roundabout Safety Concerns:
70% of collisions at Keir Roundabout involve queuing vehicles.
Collisions at Keir Roundabout account for 31% of accidents on this section of the A9.
When traffic flows exceed 1,500 vehicles per hour, queues can extend up to 1.5 miles from the junction.
Blackford Junction Issues:
The at-grade junction poses significant safety risks for local residents.
Drivers must negotiate crossing 3 lanes to go south, with traffic coming from multiple directions.
Villagers often wait up to 10 minutes to access the central reservation at peak times.
Expert Recommendations:
The A9 Keir Roundabout to West of Broxden Roundabout Corridor Study states:
"The DMRB Stage 1 Assessment report concludes that the grade separation of Keir Roundabout should remain part of any strategy going forward."
Community Impact:
Upgrading these junctions would significantly improve safety and traffic flow for both local residents and long-distance travelers using the A9.
Economic Benefits:
Improved traffic flow would support local businesses and regional economic growth by reducing travel times and increasing reliability.
We urge Transport Scotland to prioritize these upgrades as part of their A9 improvement strategy. The safety of road users and the efficiency of Scotland's transport network depend on these critical infrastructure improvements.
By signing this petition, you're supporting safer roads and more efficient travel for all users of the A9 corridor.
