The Issue

Growing up in Grover Beach, the skatepark has been a huge part of my life. Ever since I was six years old, I've spent countless hours honing my skills and forging lasting friendships here. Just like me, there are many others in our community who cherish the skatepark as a vital space for recreation, creativity, and connection.

However, as the days get shorter, it becomes increasingly difficult to enjoy the skatepark to its full potential. The inadequate lighting not only limits the time we get to spend there each day, but it also poses safety concerns for skaters using the park after dark. Situations like these often discourage potential users, diminishing the vibrancy and utility of our beloved park.

Extending the operational hours of the Grover Beach skatepark and improving lighting infrastructure are achievable goals that would greatly enhance the overall experience for everyone. Upgraded lights will allow skaters more time to practice and socialize, while longer hours will accommodate those who can't visit during traditional daylight hours due to work or school commitments.

According to the Public Lighting Authority, properly installed lighting can decrease incidents of vandalism and increase safety by 17%. By investing in our skatepark's lighting and extending its hours, we will not only improve the quality of life for skaters but also promote a safer and more inclusive environment for all community members.

We urge the Grover Beach City Council to prioritize this initiative. By doing so, we will maintain the skatepark as a treasured community asset and ensure it continues to be a place where young talents can grow and thrive.

Let us come together to make this essential improvement for our community. Sign this petition and join us in advocating for better lighting and longer hours for the Grover Beach skatepark. Your support can help turn this vision into reality!
