Upgrade Alta Loma's Tennis court to a hybrid Pickleball-Tennis court

Upgrade Alta Loma's Tennis court to a hybrid Pickleball-Tennis court
The Issue
We urge the South San Francisco Parks and Recreation Department and City Council to consider upgrading Alta Loma's poorly maintained tennis court into hybrid courts that accommodate both tennis and pickleball. This change will better serve the recreational needs of our diverse community.
Pickleball is a rapidly growing sport, appealing to residents of all ages and fitness levels. Currently, there are limited dedicated pickleball facilities in Serra Highlands neighborhood, making it difficult for enthusiasts to find places to play. The closest ones are crowded and at least a mile away.
Once we have enough signatures I am going to reach out to Parks and Recreation department
Who is impacted?
The growing number of pickleball enthusiasts in South San Francisco are impacted the most, particularly seniors, families, and others who want to enjoy the game but struggle to find available courts. By not offering hybrid courts, many residents miss out on a shared space for physical activity and social engagement.
What is at stake?
If no action is taken, the increasing demand for pickleball courts will continue to go unmet, leaving players frustrated and without adequate facilities. On the other hand, converting existing tennis courts into hybrid spaces will provide a cost-effective solution that satisfies both tennis and pickleball players, promoting inclusivity and community health. If the status quo remains, we miss an opportunity to make recreational spaces more versatile and engaging for all residents.
Why is now the time to act?
With pickleball rapidly gaining popularity and recreational trends evolving, now is the perfect time for South San Francisco to adapt and offer hybrid courts. As more residents turn to outdoor activities, immediate action is essential to keep up with this demand. Waiting too long may leave a growing portion of the community underserved, while acting now ensures a more inclusive, accessible, and active community for years to come.
