Update School Sports Policy to Uphold Fairness in Transgender Student Participation

The Issue

As a parent, I have witnessed my varsity discus thrower train strenuously year after year, decade after decade, shaping themselves into a relentless athlete. Their diligence is emblematic of countless other athletes who devote time, effort, and dedication to excel in their respective sports. Yet, our system is in jeopardy if a biological male student can identify as a female and compete against female athletes in school sports.

The foreseeable outcome is unfair competition, given the innate physiological differences between most males and females that impact athletic performance. Studies indicate that males typically have higher muscle mass, bone density, and lung capacity, giving them an athletic advantage over females (Source: Journal of Applied Physiology).

Therefore, our current policy on transgender students participating in sports requires a nuanced approach to ensure the utmost fairness. We are not seeking to hinder the rights of transgender students; instead, we advocate for better policies that respect every student's identity while maintaining a level playing field in school sports.

We need to strike a balance between upholding the rights of transgender students and preserving the integrity of female sports. Towards this end, we urge for a comprehensive reconsideration and revision of the current policy. We believe in inclusive sports, driven by fairness and respect for hard work. Please sign our petition, and support fairness for all high school athletes.
