Implement a "No Detriment" policy for students at the University of Worcester

The Issue

The current measures in place at the University of Worcester to deal with the COVID-19 outbreak do not go far enough to support students through such a difficult time, the university should follow in the footsteps of others and implement a 'no detriment' policy, meaning students won't end up with results that are skewed by the circumstances. Instead, their minimum grade for a passing submission would be their current average, with higher grades still on offer for those who achieve it. Whilst the university has offered extensions, these do not necessarily take into account the effects that a lack of face to face teaching at this time will have and certainly don't cover those who may struggle with access to online resources too, a later deadline does not make up for a change in access to the education we've paid for.

It is unfair to expect that students can simply continue achieving the grades they've shown themselves to be capable of whilst unable to access so many vital facilities and resources and, as for any that do remain available in person, students should not be expected to risk their safety and that of others to reach them at this time. Many of us now face a serious disadvantage and the measures in place should reflect this more significantly.

We would urge the University of Worcester to consider the impacts of the current measures on more than submission deadlines; the effects that this situation will undoubtedly have on students' mental health and actual ability to perform cannot be mitigated through simply providing more time.
