At UWA, in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, all of our lectures were conducted online and many of our practical classes had been cancelled in 2020. We had to face new assessment formats, causing deterioration in marks for a significant number of students. Yet, why hasn’t the ungraded pass system been reinstated in semester 2 even though we are still no less disadvantaged from last semester? Given the fact that Curtin has decided to reinstate their ungraded pass system for semester 2 2020, it is questionable that UWA, a comparable university, can’t do the same and throw a lifeline to us struggling students. Many of us are anxious about the impacts of the pandemic on our marks, for reasons including job prospects or entry into postgraduate courses. No one wanted this pandemic, so the least UWA can do to level the playing field is to have the ungraded pass system for as long as our learning experience has been compromised due to the conditions we are facing.
