Keep UTM Winter 2022 courses online or dual delivery
UTM students have planned out their academic year with the expectation of online classes in winter 2022. Now there is a plan to move back on campus, shared with U of T downtown and UTSC. For those who are in other countries, have sold their cars, are renting far away from campus, and many other reasons, this change is both unfair and too short notice, forcing them to scramble to change plans and leaving many students locked out, thus forcing them to stop attending.
Massive dropout from UTM in the semester will hurt the school as well from several standpoints, so it is in their own best interests to stick to the plan they had originally laid out. Dropouts will affect UTM's reputation and income, and it hurts the bottom line of working together as a community. Worse, some students may be unable to return ever, and others unwilling due to the lack of trust created by a sudden and unexpected change with little time given. Also, dropouts will lead to overly emptier classes and thus wasted human resources and general time, space, and material waste. This could even lead to certain classes getting cancelled, locking students in a field of study from working towards their degree.
It is imperative that UTM either remain online with its delivery for Winter 2022, or offer dual delivery options for all courses available listed on the timetable and on ACORN as 'online' presently. This should also set a precedent to other campuses and universities to do likewise, that it is wrong to force students to change their course delivery method halfway through a year and only give notifications halfway or more through the first semester, and that this should be changed and disallowed as a practice among post-secondary institutions.
