University of Queensland: Relative of the Vice Chancellor irregularly admitted - release the report

University of Queensland: Relative of the Vice Chancellor irregularly admitted - release the report

The issue

It has come to light recently that a close relative of University of Queensland Vice Chancellor Paul Greenfield was given special preference in achieving entry into Medicine at UQ.

The Vice Chancellor has denied any wrongdoing, but admits that a decision was made that was “inappropriate and benefited a close relative” - and as a result he’ll be standing down in July 2012. However the University has refused to release the independent report into what happened.

I’m currently a student at UQ -- and will be starting Medicine there in 2013. This is one of the most competitive courses to get into in the country, and the idea that esteemed senior university figures would find a way to get someone into that course based not on merit, but rather on who they’re related to is simply horrifying.

As a public institution, UQ is obliged to be transparent in everything it does -- and should release the report to the public. Parents, students, and members of the public have every right to access the full information of this investigation. Sign the petition - and demand that the University Senate release the full report.

* Please note - my name isn't actually Emma Frances - I've started it under this name so that I don't put my academic or job options at UQ at risk.
