Add Qualitative Grading (S/NS) for the 2021 Fall Semester at UOttawa
Hello, everyone,
I think it is quite absurd that uOttawa is refusing to offer qualitative grading (S/NS) for 1 course, as given in the fall and winter semesters. This fall semester has proven to be more difficult than the Fall and Winter semesters. This term is tough, and I just moved to Ottawa since I was told that my classes were in person. However, that changed and classes became online for some reason. The workload is so heavy this term for me, and for everyone else. Especially that the University of Ottawa is going through a new phase this term of having some classes in person and some off-campus. This is new to all of us, and we are all facing difficulties especially with this term.
Moreover, Fall term 2021 has proven to be the toughest amongst all previous terms. Since this term most of us have online classes, I think it would be best for all of us to have the S/NS option for 1 course.
If you agree with me, please sign this petition. Wishing everyone the best of luck through these tough times. I hope everything goes back to normal next term (Winter Term 2022). Let's hope for the best, and always be optimistic.
What does Satisfactory (S) / Not satisfactory (NS) actually mean? In other words, how will it affect my GPA? How will a letter grade be converted to an S or NS?
If you choose the final grade S/NS:
This grade will not count in the calculation of your CGPA.
The letter grade will be converted to an S if the letter grade is a passing grade for the student in the program (this varies by program, so for example graduate courses have a higher passing grade than undergraduate courses). Otherwise, the letter grade will be converted to an NS. Therefore, the decision to convert a grade to S/NS will have no impact on the need to repeat courses.
A course marked NS will need to be repeated in the same manner as a failure.
The decision to opt-out of the alphanumeric grade is final and irreversible once requested.
