University DENIES "with distinction" on BA degrees over 80%

The Issue

The University of Guelph speaks of "with distinction".  That is a designation for those who maintain an 80% or higher grade. I do not need to describe the hard work for students to obtain this. Why does the university deny this? After reaching out to every level I possibly could in the University, the three responses given, were i) we follow some other universities' approach ii) pilot project was done on this (that project is 16 years old and it pertained to your "program" on you parchment). I have the link to that project if anyone wishes to see it.  I agree that there are too many programs to add, but "with distinction" is supplementary to any BA degree. iii) cost.  My proposal through student senate was to  make this an "option" for students and put the cost onto the student. For those who want it, the choice is there. Who are they to deny that academic standing? It's not right that they deny students something they've earned.   "With distinction" being mentioned on stage and on your transcripts is subpar. Do a trade off. Keep those and add it to the parchment. That parchment is the very reason we are there and the university is coming up shy on it.

I've had more than two profs say "C's get degrees" and also one that said "don't sweat it. This program is designed for you to pass".  This alone speaks volumes to me on the undertone of the entire organization itself.

I know it's all about time and money. However, students earn these words. This designation is a motivation and reward for some who fight so hard to get there.  I find  it such an oxymoron that an academic faculty can deny and academic standing?  We need to fight for this. It's our right to have that on our parchment.  For any who wish to read the email thread  between myself and the university (six weeks) for a more in depth understanding, contact me at reveritt66@gmx.com and I'll forward the thread.

SIGN this petition and make your degree and your sweat and tears to get there WORTH IT.
