University of Bristol Compensation - Strike 2018 (10.6% of Tuition Fee)
0 have signed. Let’s get to 1,000!
We, the undersigned students of the University of Bristol,
Urge that the University resolves its dispute with its staff either by resuming national negotiations with UCU or by other means to avoid affecting its students.
The unprecedented magnitude of the proposed strikes is unacceptable and will be extremely damaging to all students of the university.
We, the students of the University of Bristol, demand compensation of 10.6% of our Tuition Fees for every paying student who loses contact time due to the upcoming strike action from the 22nd of February to the 16th of March 2018 (10.6% of teaching time in an academic year, 132 days).
Mathematically, this equates to
- UK Student Fees: (10.6% of £9,000) = Approximately: £955 (Each day costs roughly £68)
- Overseas Student Fees: (10.6% of £16,000 - £23,500) = Approximately: £1,700 to £2,500
If the University is unable to reimburse us for the service we are paying for, something needs to be done in order to alleviate the consequences of the strike.
In addition, we do not individually rule out further claims of compensation. We acknowledge that the extended nature of the strikes may damage our graduate prospects, and future earnings, substantially.
This is not to suggest that we, as students at the University of Bristol, do not support the strike. Many of us stand in solidarity with our tutors and lecturers. However, this support does not overshadow the serious disruption the strikes will cause to our studies if they do go ahead. This is an education we have paid for, were promised and expect.
