Recently the weekend and evening access to Gisbert Kapp building for Electrical Engineers has been revoked. There has been no formal announcement or reasoning, with things like “wellbeing” and “health and safety” thrown around. This is unacceptable for many reasons, as outlined below:

1) Out of hours access to this building has been an invaluable aid to our learning as many assignments require software that can only be found on computers within Gisbert Kapp. We are essentially paying £9000 a year and being denied the tools we need to complete our degrees.

2)Having somewhere to study where we are guaranteed a seat, particularly during exam season, is a huge benefit. During exam season there are only 2 study spaces open at weekends meaning many students are unable to find a seat, and electrical engineers have 5+ exams each year meaning a study space is crucial.

3)Many of our assignments involve coding that cannot be given a time limit due to the nature of the task. These assignments can range in time spent on them a huge amount so expecting us to finish all of our work during working hours is unrealistic.
