The war between Ethiopian federal government led by Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed and TPLF led by Dr. Debretsion Gebremichael is entering its 14th day with no end in sight. Although this war is being described as internal Ethiopian issue, recent escalation suggests it may soon become an open international conflict involving countries in the region. So far Tigray regional government president has accused President Isaias of Eritrea of arming Ethiopian Federal troops and allowing supply and reinforcement troops to come through Eritrean Airports. As a result, Tigray regional government (TPLF) deems Eritrean airports and other sites as legitimate military targets. As a matter of fact two days ago TPLF fired three missiles into Asmara, the capital of Eritrea. Sources also suggest that Eritrean troops are fighting along with Ethiopian federal troops inside Ethiopia.

These developments are worrying. The conflict is escalating into international conflict before our own eyes and it will certainly draw countries in the region. If no action is taken to stop it, in addition to the enormous loss of life and refugee crisis, the conflict-prone horn of Africa region is at a risk of destabilization. It has the potential to be another safe haven for terrorists.

Therefore, we call upon the African Union, the United nations security council, the European Union, the United States President, the Ethiopian Orthodox church and other peace loving organizations, and individuals to pressure the waring parties to an mediate cease fire and to come to the negotiating table to solve their problems.
