Unfair Nat 5 Physics exam.
The Issue
The National 5 Physics exam was an incredibly challenging experience. Like many other students, I found the paper to be unexpectedly difficult, with questions that seemed random and a length that was overwhelming. The open-ended questions, in particular, were perplexing; they tested our understanding in ways that didn't seem fair or reflective of what we had studied. Many of my peers agree that the exam did not align with the curriculum and was unusually hard, leaving many of us feeling anxious about our results.
This exam is crucial as it significantly impacts our future, particularly our chances of gaining admission to the universities of our choice. Unfair grading due to high exam difficulty can jeopardize our educational and career aspirations.
It is vital that grade boundaries are adjusted to reflect the difficulty of the paper so that students are given a fair chance to succeed and are not penalized for a test that was unreasonably difficult.
Evidence from student forums and discussions clearly shows a widespread consensus that this year’s exam was more difficult than previous years.
I urge the Qualification Scotland (QA) to consider lowering the grade boundaries for the National 5 Physics exam this year. This action would not only relieve stress from countless students but also uphold the fairness and integrity of our education system.
