Uncap The U.S. House of Representatives

Uncap The U.S. House of Representatives
The Issue
In 1929, a law was passed that had capped the U.S. House of Representatives at 435 members. Back then, the United States had a population of around 123 million people. After doing some quick division, that meant that one representative represented around 282 thousand people. In 2026, nearly a century later, the population has greatly grown, with the population currently being around 342.5 million. Yet the amount of Representatives in the house hasn't changed. Now, one representative could represent around an average of 787 thousand people. That comes from simply dividing the total population by the number in the house. That could see a growing disconnect between the House of Representatives and the people over that amount of time. The House of Representatives is meant to better represent the people but it's hard to do that if the number of representatives remains fixed and our population continues to grow. The growing amount of people one person would represent will keep increasing if the number remains fixed. Hard to have any representative representing all those people. Respond to every single need
Besides helping representatives be more representative of their constituents, uncapping the house could help lessen the effect of gerrymandering and make elections more competitive. Harder for democrats passing a map that benefits the democrats and republicans passing a map benefiting the republicans. Mainly for the fact there would be more districts they would have to work with and each one being smaller. Third parties might have a better chance if districts are smaller since there will be less people they need to communicate with to understand their platform. The electoral college could be more representative of the people with a greater number of people in the house of representatives. The cost of campaigns could be lowered as candidates would need to spend less to reach everybody in a singular district.
For a little while now, I've seen Mr. Beat posting about sending emails to his representative about it. He is the inspiration behind this petition. I figured why not help him out by creating this petition he could share. It might help nationalize this issue and make people more likely to favor the topic. I am not picky on a particular minimum. Just saw Mr. Beat had posted about it and figured to try to help him as much as I can.
