Postponement of Bcom final assessment-exam

The Issue

It was stated that the final assessment is to be written on campus as required by SAICA in order to maintain the integrity of our Bcom Degree. This is NOT true since the rest of the South African universities wrote their final assessment online, eg UNISA, UCT, Stellenbosch.

- Assessments should hold equal weighting yet this final assessment contributes 60% of our final mark. Usually exams weigh 60% and assessments weigh 40% of our final mark which means this in fact is an exam.

-As stated via communique, all UKZN exams are meant to be held in January 2021 yet we are writing our assessment-exam in December (14th-18th) which is TWO days after lectures conclude ( i.e 11th Dec), we aren’t given any study break.

-We are currently in the middle of a pandemic with a rising number of COVID cases in SA, whilst many countries have gone into a second lockdown we are meant to write contact exams which most probably will result is students and staff contracting COVID even though measures may be taken to prevent that.

The BCOA 3rd year students petition to write the final assessment online and in December with a weighting of 33% OR an alternative would be to write our exams in January 2021 with a duration of 3 hours.
