A call for the Government to take a long hard look into the decline of the spring run of the iconic Atlantic Salmon into Scottish rivers.

This decline has a knock on effect to the Fishing Tourist Industry which is worth millions to the Scottish economy every year. Jobs are at risk also with a decline in River Managers, Ghillies, Hoteliers, Tackle Shop owners , to mention a few. We anglers believe the problem lies with predators, seals, fish eating birds which collectively eat millions of fry every year stopping them from going to sea and maturing into the Spring fish we all hold dear. Water quality, temperature, river obstructions, are a few of the issues which need addressed.

The Government have to act and come up with a plan which should include restocking, predator control and river management. There may be a bigger picture with what happens at sea but let's look at our river systems first as we can't let the Atlantic Salmon head for extinction!
