The Issue

Why Reform Universal Credits?

Due to the wholly inadequate way universal credits are calculated, owing to the implementation of the minimum income floor (MIF), more than 5 million Self-Employed people within the United Kingdom are suffering financially. Additionally, zero hour “contracts” account for over 1 million of the working people within the United Kingdom, people subjected to zero hour “contracts” have very little stability in their lives, if any. This coupled with reduced educational effectiveness, has caused the UK to have approximately 14 million people reduced to poverty, and approximately 320 thousand people subjected to homelessness, many of these people children.

Millions of people have found themselves in a very difficult financial position, facing rental and mortgage debt, hunger, job loss, business collapse and much more

The British people have developed multiple financial and work-related psychological and addiction problems, due to the nature of working life in UK, which has only been highlighted and increased by the covid pandemic.

We have seen during the covid pandemic, just how fragile our economic stability is, with some unforeseen outcomes that haven’t yet arrived, and possibly won’t be apparent for another 6 -12 months.

The financial crash of 2008 has caused the government to assist the financial sector with approximately £745 Billion, and it is the people that are paying the price for the banks mistakes, it has caused to a heavy reduction in public financial support and investment, which has left our country in a weakened position, not only financially but culturally.

There are now more people being left behind than ever before, and crime in some places is out of control, we can’t allow this to continue, otherwise the United Kingdom and the British people will lose who they are.

It is now time to empower the people and let the people not only assist, but drive the recovery of our economy and our country, support the people, so they can support themselves.

How to Reform Universal Credits.

Permanent abolition of the minimum income floor, which unfairly punishes the self-employed and people on low incomes.

Universal Credits, to be scaled, calculated and paid with ongoing adjustment, in-line with the UK poverty line, ensuring no person’s income within the United Kingdom falls below the poverty line, regardless of working activity.

Housing rental support to be scaled, calculated and paid with ongoing adjustment in addition to the UK poverty line calculation and payment.

Creation of property deposit savings scheme with an upper cap of £30 000, allowing the removal of the saving requirements for universal credit eligibility, if the applicants savings are to cover deposits to enable a mortgage to purchase their first property.

Introduction of UK wide all access business support start-up and redevelopment loan scheme of £50 000 (increasing with inflation), with a scalable repayment regime in-line with the tuition fee loan, where repayments start when the funded business generates £30 000 (increasing with inflation) per annum in taxable profits.

Introduction of UK wide all access business start-up and educational support program, to assist with business plan development, allowing access to the business support start-up and redevelopment loan, and ongoing business and educational support to enable ongoing business development, growth and desired outcomes.
