Reclaim the BBC
The Issue
Dominic Cummings and the far right want to end the BBC in its current form. We're asking Parliament to ensure the survival and impartiality of the BBC as a public service broadcaster by working to create...
- a governance structure that maximises editorial independence and impartiality according to the BBC's charter
- a public funding model that's fair (and free for the over 75s) that guarantees the BBC's survival and frees it from undue influence brought about by constant threats to remove its funding
The BBC stands accused of losing its way with persistent questions about its impartiality during the 2014 Scottish Independence Referendum, the 2016 United Kingdom European Union membership referendum and recent elections. It has also been criticised for providing a platform for those spreading hate speech and climate change denial. Following changes made in 2016 by David Cameron's government to the BBC's governance and recurrent threats to the licence fee, many believe the BBC is unduly influenced by government.
Now the threats to defund the BBC have become louder, time is running out. We must act now to save the BBC and ensure its survival as a public service broadcaster.
