Legislate to apply an emergency tax on Amazon to create a fund which can be used to support all retailers that are being instructed to close

In the crucial weeks leading up to Christmas it is cruel that local shops have to close while Amazon can carry on as normal. Amazon are making massive profits at the expense of local shops. Arguably a large distribution centre presents a greater risk of spreading the virus than a small local shop. The taxpayer is supporting people who cannot work due to the virus but Amazon does not pay its fair share of tax on its profits. A tax on the profits of Amazon could be used to stop local shops going out of business because they have to close, and support staff in the lead up to Christmas. Many of these shops will have purchased stock which they are unable to sell if they can’t open
