UK Gov't: Stop Attacking Privacy - Restore Apple's End-to-End Encryption

The Issue

To: The UK Government, Parliament, and the Home Office

We, the undersigned citizens of the United Kingdom, strongly oppose the UK government’s unjustifiable pressure on Apple, which has led to the withdrawal of its Advanced Data Protection (ADP) feature from UK users. This ill-thought-out move undermines the fundamental right to privacy and weakens the security of millions of individuals, businesses, and organisations that rely on encrypted cloud storage.

Why This Matters

Will you let the govt knock down your boundary wall?

Apple’s ADP feature provided end-to-end encryption for iCloud, ensuring that only the account holder could access their data. The UK government’s demand for backdoor access, has forced Apple to remove this security feature entirely for UK users only, making us more vulnerable to cyberattacks, identity theft, and government overreach.

Privacy is a Fundamental Right: Government-mandated access to private data erodes civil liberties and sets a dangerous precedent for increased surveillance.

We're under attack from criminals & state players, alike!

Weakened Security Benefits Criminals, Not Citizens: Backdoors make personal and business data susceptible to hacking, putting millions at risk.

A Competitive Disadvantage for the UK: Businesses will lose confidence in the UK’s digital policies, potentially driving innovation and investment elsewhere.

The forced removal of critical security features by our own government, with no offered alternative, is alarming and exposes millions to numerous financial and privacy threats.

Our Demands

We call on the UK government to:

  1. Reverse its demand for backdoor access to encrypted data and respect citizens' digital privacy rights.
  2. Engage in transparent discussions with security and privacy experts to find balanced solutions that protect both privacy and national security.
Allow Apple to reinstate Advanced Data Protection (ADP) for UK users without government-imposed compromises.
