Help Change Wealth Inequality in the Black Community
The Issue
The Black Community has experienced wealth inequality for centuries. From when slaves were emancipated to present day. There are multiple discrepancies and differences across the board from wealthy, predominantly white neighborhoods to struggling, predominantly black neighborhoods. These neighborhoods may not have the financial literacy to deal with their personal and family economics, which can be brought forward through generations. These neighborhoods aren’t truly receiving the government help that they need to pull out of the status they are in. So they remain in the same place. There is also discrimination in housing due only to the color of their skin. They are dealing with high interest loans and can even be turned completely because of their race. Areas that are affluent typically have decreased presence of minorities. Studies show that black households are receiving significantly less income than white households. Once again this is a clear area that has not changed since slaves were freed. Black people still have to work harder to achieve what they want for themselves, and they don’t always have the help they need to get there. And because of this there still aren’t the same opportunities for the future. We can begin with building awareness of this issue and making it known to others so that changes can be put in place.
